Somatic Resonance 2.0
I am not a teacher: your body is the teacher. I am, at most, a teacher's assistant trying to be a good liaison between you.
Presence, aliveness, and resonance are foundational. Without them, we’ll always feel like strangers in the world, visitors passing through our own lives.
Back in November, I put out a beta version of my Somatic Resonance course, with the aim of sharing what I’ve learned about befriending the wisdom of the body. So many people regret being dissociated, distanced from themselves, living in the third person, feeling like there’s a barrier between them and their own lives.
I felt the same way most of my life, and the best thing that ever happened to me was finding somatic resonance, making my way into more presence and aliveness. I want to share that (almost impossibly under-hyped) path with more people.
Now, after a few rounds of beta testing, live sessions, student feedback, additions and edits, I’m pushing a updates for Somatic Resonance 2.0 today.
But before we dive in too far, I just want to give the tl;dr:
Somatic Resonance is the art of being fully present and alive with whatever is already in your experience. No more trying to cherry pick which experiences we like and which ones we suppress (leaving them to fester and erupt later).
The course is non-linear, to cultivate discernment and agency. I provide several suggested paths through the pages, but ultimately you can wander and explore and try some things while ignoring others. Everything is set up to nurture a sense of ownership over your practice and life.
The starter trails are set up for total beginners, practice-focused people, theory-focused people, and a special blend of my own design.
The focus of the course is on practice. There are a number of somatic practices included, and all the other theory and discussion exists only to support and deepen those practices. If you ever feel stuck: stop reading, pick a practice and spend more time with it.
I built Somatic Resonance for two purposes
1. To share practices and lenses that help deepen people into the grounded aliveness of the body, and live from a place of coherence
2. As a foundational step towards working with inner narratives, the stories we tell ourselves, and the mythopoetic currents that guide our lives. These aspects of experience can’t be worked with from a purely mental or spiritual place—if we want real transformation, we need to be able to sense and engage with the somatic aspects of our lived narratives. I didn’t see anyone else building frameworks to cultivate this, so I took it on myself.
Those are the basics. If you like what you see, you’re more than welcome to pick up the course and come to our weekly sharing sessions.
If you want a little more info, or are curious about the layout, I’ll give a quick tour below.
We begin with a light introduction, explaining the layout of what comes next
After that, it’s onto what I think of as the “Somatic Resonance Mini-Course,” a series of 7 pages, with text and video, that give you a full rundown of the basics. If you do nothing else but watch, read, absorb, and practice with these pages, you’ll have enough material to deepen your practice for several months.
When you’re ready to continue, you have a few options. First, you could pick any of the trail guides to follow. The course itself is a database of pages, what I think of as a forest. Within that forest, I arranged some starter trails, depending on your interests. (Expand the pictures below to see the trails and their descriptions.
If none of the trails appeal to you, and you just want to forge ahead into the forest on your own, that’s good too. The forest is arranged into 5 spirals:
Spiral 1 is made up of the pages that are most core, most critical to the cultivation of Somatic Resonance.
Spiral 2 is made up of pages that build on that core, add to it, give context, and so on.
Spiral 3 is a little further from the core, containing more pages and practices that will be great for some people, only okay for others. Spiral 4 moves out a little further. And by Spiral 5, we’ve reached pages that are good for specific applications or particular contexts, but that may not be of interest to everyone.
These pages tend to link to one another, creating a fabric of theory and practice that lets you find your own space in the forest, climb trees, plant crops, extend metaphors beyond their breaking point, all that stuff.
Basically, and I should emphasize this:
Everything in this course—from the content to the format to the ways I aim to frame it to the outcomes of the practice itself—everything is aimed at allowing you to find presence in your own body, and to navigate your own way from there.
In this “course,” such as it is, I am not the teacher: your body is the teacher. I am, at most, a Teaching Assistant trying my best to be a good liaison, to get you and your body in touch, on speaking terms, attuned to one another’s habits and patterns.
That’s the layout of the course. That’s what you’ll find when you enter. As for the content, all of it comes down to a dozen different ways of trying to lead you towards the simple, grounded presence of the body, and to deepen into the intuition that comes from that presence. Everything else unfolds from there.
If you ever have any questions, or would like some more community in your practice, I’m going to start hosting weekly meet-ups for Somatic Resonance. The information is at the bottom of the main page of the course.
Here’s a twitter thread of what people say about my work, to give you an idea of what you’re in for.
[And one final note: more video and audio were supposed to be there for this drop—they’ll be along soon. A combination of equipment issues and health issues have put a delay on those, but I’ll have them soon.]
Pick up Somatic Resonance here.
I hope all of you are feeling grounded, present and alive today. And I hope to see more of you soon.
Dude the way you share your work and put stuff into the world is so artful and beautiful. Your design and delivery is so creative and every time I see something new of yours a world of possibility and inspiration is busted open for me. I'm so hyped to see this out!
I was following the spiral without knowing I'm a beta tester 😅 congrats, looking forward for meetups
